We don’t have an official start date yet.
The RTA is a brand-new agency. In our first year, we are hiring an executive director, building the staff and planning routes in detail with a professional transit firm. Ordering buses has a long lead time, but we’ve already gotten started and are working towards robust service delivery in 2028. The community will know timelines every step of the way, shared through our website, social media, transit posters at shelters and more.

A Board of Directors with one elected representative from each voting member: Steamboat Springs, Craig, Hayden, Oak Creek, Yampa, and Routt County. All meetings are public. There is currently a search for an Executive Director to run YVRTA operations, under guidance from the board.

Today, we're funded by a founding pledge from Steamboat Ski & Resort Corp. ($1 million a year for three years), State and federal investments, and the YVRTA has already applied for over $6 million of grants to launch operations.

The RTA is designed so every community sees direct benefit. The service goals include dedicated projects in Craig, Hayden, Steamboat, South Routt (Oak Creek/Yampa), unincorporated Routt, and airport-connected communities. Community equity is a stated design principle, not an afterthought.

SST continues to operate all existing routes and services within the City of Steamboat Springs. The RTA will take over the existing Highway 40 regional route SST currently runs, and add new regional and community routes on top.

The City of Craig is a full voting member of the RTA. The boundary extends along U.S. 40 from the Routt County line into Craig. Moffat County as a whole is not a member, but Craig's participation is fully supported by the intergovernmental agreement.

The YVRTA will publish annual financial reports and undergo independent audits. The board reviews financial reports monthly at its public meetings, and the budget hearings have two readings so that the public can weigh in as the budget is adopted.
All contracts, board decisions, and financial records are public. You can request any document at any time.
